Must be top secret.
I am thinking it is not that hard, install hub on wheel or pay someone, purchase a new rear cassette single gear that is compatible with new hub and belt drive, install grip shifter.  The cable I understand has to attached the frame with some type of stick on cable holder, that is one question I have.  Also how much does weight.  Any estimates on cost?

There is a little info here.

hey guys!

I got a quote from Alpine Bikes in Inverness for installing the Alfine hub on the wheel with new spokes, cables and shifter for around £250.

I believe it weights around 1.5kg and I think you need the size 32h (I believe this has something to do with the amount of spoke holes but I may be wrong).

hey thanks a bunch....yes the 32 is the number of spoke the wheel has...
what i am looking for is which ALFINE hub will fit our frame size...
everything else is straight forward...lacing the wheels ,routing cable and shifter...
what i need to know is which ALFINE to use and what cassette.....

I was under the impression that you could only get a 32h or 36h hub…
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=35102

I assumed that they were the same size… can't give you any more info than that I'm afraid.

I'd like to know how to do it myself as I would save some ££££, but I'm scared of breaking my lovely bike!!

i have a Shimano Alfine SG-S501 silver, with 22T cassette. The cassete a get from the official Gates Distributers (in Germany), Nicolai http://www.nicolai.net/index.html.

The gear range is good for me. mostly i use the gears between 4 and 6. The Alfine is a bit louder than an singlespeed bike, but smooth enough.

I changed my rims to a 32L Rim...and so i took a 32L Hub. It is simple to count your spokes an get the right hub.

HEY WEST....THANK YOU VERY MUCH....IF I GET THE S501 HUB CAN I STILL USE THE ORIGINAL WHEEL?....I KNOW I WILL HAVE TO GET A DIFFERENT CASSETTE....
IS THE BIKE MUCH FASTER WITH THE HIGHER GEARS?

Yes you can. But u need to count your spokes and buy a alfine hub with the same count.

I am faster now ;)

Hi Westor,

Where on the nocolai site can I find the 20t.  I had a look but cant seem to find it.

Just to clarify to put the Alfine 8 speed hub on my bike I need the 20t thing and get my wheel rebuilt around it.

Anything else I would need to consider.

What gear shifters did people use???

Cheers,

Joe
