Shipping Delays
While Trek riders like Travis Brown are riding around on sweet single speed belt drives like this XOB single speed, the rest of us are still waiting for our Trek District to ship. I dropped a line to Trek last week to get the update and according to them they didn’t have any public information to share about the delay in shippments. They did say that Trek won’t put a product on the market unless the product and the market are both ready. According to them shipments have been delayed until March, but they say that it is pretty firm at this point. While I can’t wait to get my hands on one, I have to admit I wouldn’t get a lot of riding in with all the snow anyway.

I hate Trek almost as much as I hate specialized! What a pile of contrived junk!

grrr. I have no opinion of either cycle company, but these delays are fairly annoying. I had lots of time off to ride lately, and it’s just come to an end. So, no riding for a while it seems.
Really, it’s crazier to only find out by checking this site, rather than being informed by the dealer. I ordered in October for shipping in November. That’s quite a delay.

Ordered mine in October, now the largest Trek dealerhsip in US says it will be sometime in May. Ugh!

Love your site, you did a great job putting it together.I fell in love with this bike after one gawk on the Trek site, then I put a pic of the District from flicker as my new desktop screen saver. I’ve always been a roadie and have a 99 Merlin X-light w/campy rec as my only ride, since I live in downtown San Diego, I’m ready to grab this for my #2 around the city urban assault bike. Some days you just want leave your bibs and cycling shoes at home, have a cpl of brews and just blast around the hood and take in the sights. I’ll call it my under 20 mile fun in the SD sun bike.

Are you sure its still coming out? I’ve been informed by a local bike shop its been delayed at least until May and might not even come out there year. Any info direct from Trek?

I just got off the phone with a Trek representative at the San Diego Trek Store and he confirmed that the arrivals are now due towards the middle/end of May. Really, too bad
Am hoping to test ride one as soon as they’re available! It’s just seems too sexy to resist

5/18/09 is what Trek has as the ETA of arrival
March 10th, 2009 at 12:55 pm
Hi Bob – where did you hear 18th May? Are you in the US? Only just been told that UK is early April. Fingers crossed!
March 11th, 2009 at 9:59 am
uggghhh!!! my local dealer just told me the same thing. shipping tentatively in may.
u would think they would be eager to release a reasonably-priced bike like this into the current market…

I heard may 18 from my Trek dealer. Now I have heard it has been pushed back to late June. If I was not a loyal Trek fan I would have opted to go with a frame up build because it has almost been a year in wait for the bike and commuting on my Soho is getting annoying because the hubs and cranks are worn out and I do not want to put any more money into the bike. My LBS could not give me an answer if trek was going to honor the original price of the bike or if I was going to have to pay the difference. I paid in full and am just waiting to pick it up.

I think it’s becoming obvious that Trek had zero inventory and zero bikes in production when they displayed the show-stopping 2009 District at Trek World seven months ago.
They used the bike as a public relations ploy for the Trek brand (possibly never intending to manufacture it), then watched to see if a demand for the bike materialized.
Now they are playing catch up.
Not the most customer-friendly business model, but one that eliminates the financial risk for Trek.

My Trek dealer (Ottawa, Canada) has told me sometime in May.
This is definitely frustrating. I wonder if they’re having trouble getting enough gates chains…
ps; when rims are as thick as this, I can only guess that the innertube valve must be extremely long. Anyone know anything about this?

I was told at my LBS here in Chicago that they’d be in before the end of this month. Now I’m starting to wonder if they’re as clueless as the rest of us as to what’s going on. It sure would be nice if Trek were to explain what’s going on. Waiting until June would be all but unbearable. I sure hope you all are wrong, and my LBS is right, but I’m not holding my breath.
Perhaps we’ll get some here in Chicago before the rest of you since the plant is pretty close. I’m pretty sure most of the 2009 catalog was shot here.
March 27th, 2009 at 11:37 am
DANG! Just got off the phone with another Chicago Bike shop. They’re saying not until July now.
March 27th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
Another update, another delay…
Now I’m told the District will only be shipped mid-July.
March 29th, 2009 at 12:42 am
Argh that is so frustrating. I could have got a custom fixie made with a Gates drive had I known it would take this long
March 30th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
Just this past week, I called the TREK concept store that I ordered my District through and they are showing an estimated arrival date of May 27th. This seems more concrete than the earlier estimated arrival date of “sometime in March”.
March 31st, 2009 at 4:18 pm
My girl at the local bike shop here in NYC accessed Trek’s site today and said that the ship date now reads JULY
March 31st, 2009 at 9:44 pm
JULY !? Shocking. I have an e-mail from Trek saying early April for the UK. If I hear nothing by mid April then I’m cancelling my order.. My deposit went down for one last December with predicted delivery then being early Jan.
April 4th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
My lbs also says july now. The 2010 Treks are coming out soon and Trek dealers are getting ready to go to Trek World again, I wonder what empty promises Trek will have this year? All 5 of my bikes are Treks, but I think another company who makes a belt drive will be my next bike…..
May 11th, 2009 at 10:03 am
I went to my LBS. They’re telling me September!
May 11th, 2009 at 11:50 pm
Kevin – a wind up surely? My LBS, an email from Trek UK and when referring to UK dealer sites all state 25th May 2009 for a 60CM. Whereabouts in the world are you?
May 14th, 2009 at 9:35 am
I’m in Toronto Ontario.
May 14th, 2009 at 11:53 am
I am on Vancouver Island BC and after years of buying Trek , this is my last one (if it ever arrives)
I order a Soho and a District last year.I have emailed Trek Canada and they have declined to give me a specific date of arrival.
May 15th, 2009 at 12:14 am
FWIW, Trek’s website (www.trekbikes.com) shows “Available Summer 2009″ for both belt drive bikes, District and Soho. That could conceivably be September.
June 2nd, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Well, in spite of “Available Summer 2009″, I just picked up my Soho today in Victoria, BC (ordered last Sep), and apparently they’ve already had other Sohos and a District in. Very happy with my first ride on the Soho!

I talked to the Norwegian importer (Foss Sykler) recently, and they said that they expected it to “not show up until the end of July”. Even more worrying is that they kind of told me that they didn’t want to introduce models that late in the year (because “you know, everyone expects price cuts come August”), so most likely, it will not be available here until next sprint.
Maybe I’ll have to import one from somewhere?
